Hilfenhaus also dismissed Laxman on 66. Laxman was squared up in defense and the ball went past the bat's edge to clip the off-stump leaving Laxman stunned. It was once again a case of so near yet so far for Sachin Tendulkar while India hurtled towards an innings defeat at the hands of Australia by tea on the fourth day of the second Test in Sydney on Friday. Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar's quest for his elusive 100th international century ended in disappointment again when the master blaster was dismissed by Australian skipper Michael Clarke.
Clarke had Tendulkar caught by Michael Hussey at first slip for 80 which included 9 fours boundaries. Tendulkar has been stranded on 99 Test and one-day international centuries since scoring 111 against South Africa in the World Cup in March. India, who were in danger of facing an innings defeat, lost Gautam Gambhir at 83 in the first session. The visitors, still trailing by 225 runs, were 286/6 at lunch. VVS Laxman scored a 92-ball 50 soon after lunch, which included six fours, to take India past 250-run mark on Day 4 of the second Test.
