1st Anniversary of signing of the GTA Agreement as BLACK DAY : GTF
New Delhi : The GORKHALAND TASK FORCE has decided to observe the first anniversary of the signing of the GTA Agreement as BLACK DAY. The GORKHALAND TASK FORCE has organized a sit-in at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Political and social organizations opposed to the formation of the GTA will participate in the sit-in and wear black bands and hold black flags to express their disapproval of the GTA and the GTA elections. Similar programmes are also being organised in Uttarakhand, Haryana, Assam and other north-eastern states on the day.
Gorkhas all over India will remember this day as one on which the Gorkha aspiration for the creation of a separate state was betrayed. It may be recalled that the GTA agreement was signed on July 19, 2011. Coming after a popular movement for the creation of Gorkhaland, which was supported by Gorkhas from all over India, the GTA represented a massive compromise. Far from being an iconic state of India’s Gorkhas, the GTA is only a local development agency restricted to a region that does not even have the full proposed Gorkhaland territory under its purview. For all its failures, the Gorkhaland Task Force has fully and completely rejected the GTA and its signing will forever remain a black blot in Gorkha history.
