2 Crore Rupees for 15 Libraries in Darjeeling
Darjeeling: The West Bengal government has sanctioned Rs two crore for the renovation of 15 libraries in Darjeeling district as promised by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Library Affairs minister Abdul Karim Chowdhury had said that the funds would be provided following the chief minister's declaration. District Library Officer Amrit Subba said libraries across the district were in dire need of renovation.
"We have recieved the notification that the state government has sanctioned Rs two crore for renovation of 15 libraries in Darjeeling and hope that the funds will arrive soon. We will begin work as soon as the funds arrive." The Library Affairs minister had sought a detailed report on the condition of libraries in the hills during a recent on the occasion of the Darjeeling Tea and Tourism festival held recently.
