Gurkha soldier injured while training in NZ
WELLINGTON: The British High Commission has released the name of a Gurkha soldier shot in the foot during a training exercise in New Zealand. Corporal Kamal Rai is with the 180-strong 2nd Royal Ghurka Regiment. The high commission says the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence will investigate the accident which took place at the shooting range at the Tekapo Military Training Area in Canterbury. The New Zealand Defence Force says it appears another Gurkha solider discharged his weapon, injuring Corporal Rai. It says he was treated at the scene and taken to Timaru Hospital, but the injury is believed to be minor.
