2nd death anniversary of Madan Tamang
DARJEELING : Amidst various supporters and well wishers the Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League (ABGL) on 21 May 2012, commemorated the 2nd death anniversary of its former leader Late Madan Tamang. The present ABGL President, Bharati Tamang also the wife its slain leader during the memorial function held at Club Side, Darjeeling (the very place where Late Tamang was murdered) expressed her dismay over the lenient security of Rapid Action Force and the Police provided by the Administration during today’s commemoration. Further, she also added that during the time of her husband’s murder there was handful of security.
Complaining that the murderers are let loose in bail, she stated that till date no justice has been done to them. Such types on fateful incidents pose a threat to the society and the people will gradually lose faith in the Administration, she asserted. Alleging the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of supporting the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), the disappointed widow said that they had already put forward 5 letters asking for the CM’s appointment but all of them have been rejected. Lastly, she added that when Banerjee was the Railway Minister, she had assured them of necessary CBI help regarding the case, but after Banerjee became the CM, she totally overlooked the assurance. Still the ABGL President remaining hopeful said “I have not lost hope that we shall get justice”.
The Communist Party of Marxist (India) (CPM) leader, Ashok Bhattacharya also attended the memorial function. He stated that Late Tamang was not only the leader of ABGL but was also a man with a pure heart who always hoped for the peace in the hills and the betterment of its people. Clarifying that his presence at the memorial function was not based on political reasons he stated “our relation with Late Tamang was beyond politics”. Further, delivering his sadness over not being able to come of any help regarding the murder case, Bhattacharya asserted that the CBI should fully interfere in the matter and provide justified results. Being a CPM politician and standing his political grounds, Bhattacharya added that the CPM never has and never will betray its people. In the past the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) and at present the GJM is fooling the public.
Others who were present in the memorial function were CMP leader, Jibesh Sarkar, Communist Party of Revolutionary Marxist (CPRM) Spokesperson, Govind Chettri, CPRM working President, LM Lama, Arun Acharya, Sikkim Darjeeling Akikaran Manch President, Gokul Sinha, Gorkha Rashtriya Congress (GRC) President, Nima Lama, Gorkha Nawarajya Nirman leader, Dawa Pakhrin, Sikkim Darjeeling Akikaran leader, Subodh Pakhrin, Gorkhaland Task Force (GTF) President, Rev Dr Anos Das Pradhan, R.Moktan, ABGL Vice President, Laxman Pradhan, General Secretary Pratap Khati, Secretary Suresh Chettri, Kurseong Sub Divisional leader KD Bomzon, SK Pradhan and members of various political parties. All of them offered khadas on the memorial stone of Late Tamang as a sign of condolence.
