Rajya Sabha Election in Sikkim on Jan 30: EC

New Delhi: The Election Commission has announced that the biennial election for the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Sikkim will be held on January 30, 2011. The term of the sitting Rajya Sabha MP from Sikkim Ongden Tshering Lepcha on February 23, 2012. Lepcha joined Rajya Sabha on 22nd February 2006 as a nominated member from Sikkim Democratic Front.As per the poll schedule, the notification would be issued on January 13, 2012, and the last date for making nominations has been fixed as January 20.

The following is the schedule of the Biennial Election:

Issue of Notification: 13th January, 2012 (Friday)

Last date for making nominations: 20th January, 2012 (Friday)

Scrutiny of nominations: 21st January, 2012 (Saturday)

Last date for withdrawal of candidatures: 23rd January, 2012 (Monday)

Date of poll: 30th January, 2012 (Monday)

Hours of poll: 9.00 A.M. to 4.00 P.M

Counting of Votes: 30th January, 2012 (Monday) at 5.00 PM

Date before which election shall be completed: 3rd February, 2012 (Friday)

The poll process has to be completed by February 3.
