Strike has been with been withdrawn till 20 October
The Gorkhaland Joint Action Committee in Darjeeling today decided to put on hold our agitation for a separate State till October 20th 2013. This is in deference to the appeal by the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde as a prerequisite for tripartite talks on the statehood issue. The condition set is that the talks should be held by October 20. The Home Minister has clearly stated that no new states cannot be created "immediately". We reiterate that the solution to Gorkhaland is not immediate and that it requires stepwise dialogue to solve the century old demand of the Gorkhas. We decry the hostile and confrontationist attitude of the State Government and would henceforth expect its cooperation to take the tripartite talks forward. We will also organize a sit in Dharna in Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong from 13th September onward in our traditional attire.

Identification of non-Indian Nepalis living in North Bengal After 1931 - Mamata Banerjee
.jpg)
OUTLOOK INDIA
- he India-Nepal border in north Bengal is porous, unguarded by any border security force like the SSB
- Defence ministry has intelligence that some neighbour(s) are fuelling the Gorkhaland movement
- The 1950 Indo-Nepal treaty has defined it such that Nepalis who settled in India after 1931 would be considered Nepalis and not Indians, a point the TMC has its eyes on

Statehood is about our identity, about our right to self-determination. Just as Mamata Banerjee says she is from Bengal, we too want to say we are from Gorkhaland. Its is unconstitutional for Mamata Banerjee to say Bengal cannot be divided. Article 3(a) in The Constitution Of India 1949 clearly says that a new State can be formed by separation of territory from any State or by uniting two or more States or parts of States or by uniting any territory to a part of any State. Mamata Banerjee' statement of Bengal cannot be undivided is unconstitutional as the Constitution of India clearly provides a provision of creating a new state under Section 3(A). No person is above the law or the Indian Constitution. Gorkhaland is a justified and a constitutional demand.06:44 | Posted in darjeeling, Gallery, GJM, Latest News, news, गोरखा जनमुक्ति मोर्चा, गोरखालैंड, दार्जिलिंग | Read More »

Our fight is Against Centre, not West Bengal Govt. - GJM
"When we signed the GTA agreement, the central government said that they don't have the mandate to give us a state, so take GTA on temporary basis. But within a year the centre declared Telengana. So it must also declare Gorkhaland alongwith Telengana," said Gurung, adding that his "fight was against the central government and not Bengal". The GTA was created July 18, 2011, via a tripartite agreement signed between the Gorkha outfit and the state and central governments. Gurung said that he would not entertain any other arrangement other than Gorkhaland. With the Mamata Banerjee government cracking down on the separatist movement and arresting hundreds of GJM activists, including its key leaders, Gurung accused the state government of "playing rough".
"Our opposition is dangerous and if they play rough that does not mean we play rough. We should not hide and we must face the agitation. Our agitation is a democratic agitation which will be non-violent. We will soon start a cultural agitation," said Gurung whose GJM on August 3 began an intensified separatist movement in the Darjeeling hills following the UPA's endorsement of a separate Telangana. Asserting that the GJM was not against education, Gurung asked all schools to "discuss the Gorkhaland issue in the morning assembly as students must understand the relevance of the demand". The GJM also announced a "ghar bahira janata" on September 2 and 3 and a "Janta Sadak Ma" programmes from September 4. Gurung took a dig at chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who is slated to attend a Lepcha community programme in Kalimpong on Monday, offering his best wishes to her. "Best wishes to Mamata Banerjee and her programme in Kalimpong where she is bringing people from Dooars to make it a success," he said.

Maasai Warriors take on Gurkha Soldiers in Cricket match in Kenya
They're used to chasing baboons and elephants off their pitch at home in Kenya, but when a group of cricketing Maasai warriors came to Maidstone yesterday, all they had to contend with was some pigeons. Members of 70 Gurkha Field Squadron - based at Invicta Park Barracks, in Royal Engineers Road - played host to the Maasai Cricket Warriors. The match came after the Gurkhas had helped the Maasai warriors construct a cricket pitch back in Kenya, in Maasailand. After a 1-1 scoreline after two matches, they played a deciding match at the barracks, watched by other members of the regiment - with the Gurkhas emerging victorious. The warriors play in their flowing traditional robes, while the Gurkhas opted for more traditional cricket whites. The warriors are staying in the UK to compete in the Last Man Standing contest at Lords and the Oval after adopting the game as a way of promoting social change within their tribe.08:02 | Posted in Gorkha, military, news, गोरखा, समाचार | Read More »
