केदारनाथ : उत्तराखंड में जून में भीषण प्राकृतिक आपदा की वजह से मची तबाही के बाद केदारनाथ मंदिर में पसरा सन्नाटा आज सुबह मंत्रोच्चार के साथ ही खत्म हो गया, जब केदार घाटी में 400 से अधिक लोगों को मौत की नींद सुलाने वाली बाढ़ की विभीषिका के 86 दिन बाद इस हिमालयी तीर्थ में प्रार्थना और पूजा हुई। पौ फटने के कुछ देर बाद घड़ी की सुइयों ने जैसे ही सात बजने का संकेत दिया, छठीं सदी के इस मंदिर के प्रधान पुजारी रावल भीम शंकर लिंग शिवाचार्य ने मंदिर के पट खोले और पूजा करने के लिए गर्भगह में प्रवेश किया। पूजा और प्रार्थना आज सर्वार्थ सिद्धि योग के अवसर पर शुरू की गई, जिसे अत्यंत शुभ माना जाता है। उत्तराखंड के मुख्यमंत्री विजय बहुगुणा अपने कुछ मंत्रिमंडलीय सहयोगियों के साथ आज की पूजा में शामिल होने वाले थे, लेकिन खराब मौसम की वजह से वह देहरादून से नहीं आ सके। 

केदार घाटी घने कोहरे की चादर से ढकी है। आज सुबह सवेरे हुई पूजा को कवर करने के लिए आने वाले मीडिया के विभिन्न दलों को यहां से करीब 22 किमी दूर गुप्तकाशी में रूकना पड़ा क्योंकि वह खराब मौसम की वजह से आगे नहीं बढ़ पाए। पूजा से पहले मंदिर का शुद्धिकरण और फिर प्रायश्चितकरण (मंदिर में लंबे समय तक पूजा न करने के लिए प्रायश्चित) किया गया। प्रधान पुजारी के साथ बड़ी संख्या में पुरोहित और बद्रीनाथ केदारनाथ समिति के अधिकारी मौजूद थे। सामूहिक मंत्रोच्चार और पवित्र शंख की ध्वनि से पूरा मंदिर गूंज उठा। बहरहाल, 13,500 फुट की उंचाई पर स्थित इस मंदिर में फिलहाल किसी भी श्रद्धालु को जाने की अनुमति नहीं दी जा रही है। 

इस प्रख्यात हिमालयी मंदिर की यात्रा बहाल करने की तारीख तय करने के लिए 30 सितंबर को एक बैठक बुलाई गई है। पूजा के लिए मंदिर की सफाई करने के बाद उसे बहुत ही अच्छी तरह सजाया गया। इससे पहले राज्य में आई भीषण बाढ़ का असर मंदिर पर भी पड़ा था और वहां 86 दिन तक खामोशी छाई रही थी। बाढ़ के कारण पहाड़ी जिले रूद्रप्रयाग, उत्तरकाशी, चमोली और पिथौरागढ़ बुरी तरह प्रभावित हुए तथा आधिकारिक आंकडों के मुताबिक 600 से अधिक लोगों की जान चली गई। इस आपदा में 4,000 से ज्यादा लोग लापता भी हो गए।

देहरादून : बीते शनिवार मुजफ्फरनगर में दो समुदायों के बीच भड़के दंगे का असर दून में भी पड़ा है। हरिद्वार और देहरादून की सीमाएं सील कर दी गईं।वहीं देहरादून के अति संवेदनशील क्षेत्रों में पुलिस पेट्रोलिंग कर रही है। जानकारी के अनुसार पटेलनगर थाना क्षेत्र में सबसे अधिक सक्रियता बढ़ाई गई है। मेहूंवाला, बड़ोवाला, तेलपुर, बुढ्ढी, तुनवाला, टर्नर रोड, सुभाषनगर, नई बस्ती, गांधी रोड आदि क्षेत्रों में पुलिस पेट्रोलिंग बढ़ा दी गई है।

वहीं शहर से लगे डोईवाला, जोगीवाला, मोथरोवाला सहित अन्य इलाकों में पुलिस गश्त कर रही है। साथ ही स्थानीय खूफिया एजेंसी को भी सक्रिय कर दिया गया है और संवेदनशील और अतिसंवेदनशील इलाकों में लगाया गया है। एसएसपी केवल खुराना ने बताया कि सभी थानाध्यक्षों, क्षेत्राधिकारियों को अपने-अपने इलाकों में गश्त करने के निर्देश दिए गए हैं। वहीं हरिद्वार पुलिस के साथ भी लगातार वार्ता की जा रही है।पुलिस की पूरी कोशिश अफवाहों को रोकने की  है। साथ ही किसी स्थान पर अधिक लोगों के एक साथ इक्ट्ठा होने पर नजर रखी जा रही है। अगर कोई व्यक्ति अफवाह उड़ाता पकड़ा गया, तो उसके खिलाफ सख्त कार्रवाई की जाएगी।

The demand for Gorkhaland, pending since 1907 is not only about identity of Gorkhas but also, fits into the socio-political, economic and security architecture of the north east. The state re-organisation commission created linguist states and Gorkhas have got nothing in common with West Bengal. The short clip on national television showing  the chief minister of West Bengal speaking in Bengali displaying the Honorable high court order and warning to stop the bandh in 72 hours, clearly shows the disconnect to a neutral bystander. Linguist states are the bedrock of India and the disconnect is so visible, the Gorkhas do not speak or understand Bengali. They have undertaken a very circuitous journey in seeking their identity. It is whispered that during the time of the Constituent Assembly (‘47-’50) OBC status was offered to Gorkhas, which they denied saying they were high caste Hindus. The community than labored for inclusion of the language in the eight schedule of the constitution granted on 22 August 1992, which again did not get them political identity.

Today the community is still struggling for identity, Gorkhaland is one part of it, the other being an all India OBC status and the third being a linguistic minority status. The Hillmen’s Association first raised the issue for a homeland for the people of this area, in 1907 before the Minto-Morley Commission. The issue has been raised more than 17 times some of which are before the Simons Commission in 1929 and subsequently at the time of the Constituent Assembly in 1947 by Damber Singh Gururng, and finally, before the First State Reorganisation Commission, in 1955. It was Subash Ghishing who coined the name Gorkhaland, in mid-1980, and violence did take place back then and in the earlier avatar of Bimal Gurung (2008-2012).

The Gorkhaland movement always also brings up a couple of false images; the first is of violence in the hills, a legacy of the earlier movement of the eighties, nearly 1,200 dead. Gorkhaland is located in a sensitive  area  for the defence and security of India as it is a sensitive geographical piece of land bordering, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, the Gorkhas have proved their loyalty time and again. The Siliguri corridor is strengthened by the formation of Gorkhaland and will fit seamlessly into the look east policy of the government of India, with the other states of this region.  Once the vast trade network opens, a well administered state will be able to manage its cross border trade better and also be suitably poised to exploit the south-east Asia trade build up. The economic viability of the state, Gorkhaland will not have any problems, because of its rich biodiversity, tourism, education, tea and cinchona plantation, plus the vast unexplored hydro power.

The hang over of Darjeeling’s past raises another tricky issue. Darjeeling initially belonged to Sikkim, was captured by the Gorkhas, ceded to East India Company in 1816 by the Gorkhas, restored to Sikkim in 1817 and taken on lease by the British  from the King of Sikkim in 1835 and made a protected area. Darjeeling stayed with India at independence in 1947 and Sikkim joined India in 1975. The greatest weakness of the Gorkhas is that they are in a minority in all geographical areas like Himachal, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal, Assam except Sikkim (which borders China) and Darjeeling. This weakness has to be converted to strength in vote bank politics. The election result shows that seats are won or lost by one or one and a half per cent swing in votes. If the Gorkhas vote en mass they can create a swing in at least 16 to 20 seats in parliament elections and dozens of seats in state assemblies, but lack of unity and one up man ship have not allowed Gorkhas to get political identity, which in vote bank politics gets seats which again in turn gets progress to the community at large. The other option is to wait for the second state reorganisation commission as and when it is set up.

In the case of Gorkhaland the Achilles heel is local issues take priority over core Identity issue, thus both Subash Ghishing and Bimal Gururng twice took the agitation to a crescendo and blinked at the last moment. In the first instance the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Committee was formed and in the second cases the Gorkha Tribunal Authority. Gorkha civil society needs to bring the various Gorkha political factions together.

The factions are All India Bharatiya Gorkha League (ABGL), headed by Bharati Tamang widow of late Madan Tamang, The Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF), Ghishing own, Bimal Gurung own, Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) and the Gorkha Land Task Force consists of four parties headed by R Muskanto and a civil society called Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, are some of the major national players. The ultimate aim is creation of a Gorkha identity which manifests in creation of a state, in the first part. Once the state is created than only the other two important pieces of Gorkha identity fit in, linguist minority status, as vernacular language over rides culture, and progress through reservation accorded through OBC/tribal status. Once all these are in place then the children have to shed the Khukri for the pen and there will be scope for emancipation for the Gorkha.

Gorkhas identity is too complex to be discussed in a few words except the old saying united they stand and divided they fall. There is a lot of intransigent strength in the Gorkha state once sanctioned, today, one party might have an edge but ten years down the line any national main line party may be popular, traditionally Gorkhas have been Congress supporters but a BJP candidate won in Uttarakhand, some credit must go to the Gorkhas. A state will allow the community to usher in prosperity and be a part of the national main stream. With due reservations the community will be able to prepare its citizen for second tier leadership in the prestigious civil services, its students in prestigious engineering, medical, and business management institutes.

The five fingers of the palm are individually fingers clench them together they become a fist. Gorkhas who form a thin population, a one per cent or more swing population, in all the hill states of India need to unify, and create that one per cent swing which affects seats in sixteen or more parliament seats all over India, than only will they be noticed. Unity could not be more acute than now, and the agitation policy needs a review of logic, which prevails in democracy.

Dehradun : The Uttarakhand government has confirmed the report of a recent intrusion by 21 Chinese troops into the Indian territory at Barahoti in Chamoli district of the state. Principal secretary (home) Uttarakhand, Om Prakash said the Chinese troops did intrude in the Barahoti area. "The detailed report is being sent to the centre by the state government" Om Prakash told HT. He added that it is the prerogative of the central government to increase troop presence in the area.The Barahoti area is a pastoral tract of land and the Hoti River flows through it. 

Chief minister of Uttarakhand Vijay Bahuguna had pointed out at the meeting of the chief ministers on internal security held in New Delhi that the Chinese troops have intruded into Uttarakhand 37 times from 2007 till date. Uttarakhand shares a 350km long border with China.China first protested the presence of Indian troops at Barahoti, which they called as Wu je, in 1954. Later, a series of events and incursions laid the foundation of the first Sino Indian war. In 2011, a dozen Chinese soldiers came to Barahoti on horseback.

After the Indo-China war, the government of India had decided to train villagers from border villages as SSB Guerillas with the intention that they would serve as a line of defense at the time of aggression by China.

But the guerillas are themselves on a war-path with the government demanding permanent employment.

Former Army commander lieutenant general (retd) HB Kala said there is need of around two more divisions, one helicopter unit and one mechanised brigade unit in Uttarakhand for curbing the incursions by the Chinese troops."There is also need to seal the borders with Nepal as China would further befriend Nepal in the future and come near Gorakhpur and places as Barahoti", he pointed out.

एक अफवाह के बाद केदारनाथ से जान बचा कर वापस लौट रहे नेपाली मजदूरों की जान पर बन आई है। जंगलों और चोटियों से बच कर आए नेपाली जैसे ही सोनप्रयाग से आगे सीतापुर, रामपुर, बामसू और फाटा आ रहे हैं, तो हर जगह उनकी तलाशी ली जा रही है। गोद में छोटे-छोटे बच्चों को लिए चार दिन से भूखे प्यासे इन नेपाली मजदूरों को लाइन में खड़ा कर उनके कपड़े तक उतारे जा रहे हैं। ये वही नेपाली मजदूर हैं, जिनके सहारे गौरीकुंड से आगे केदारनाथ की यात्रा चलती थी। सोनप्रयाग से गुप्तकाशी के बीच यह वाकया हर जगह नजर आ रहा है। हालांकि इस इलाके की किसी भी पुलिस चौकी से इसकी पुष्टि नहीं हुई है। न ही पुलिस ने इस तरह के आदेश दिए हैं। कुछ स्थानीय लोग नेपालियों को देखते ही पुलिसिया अंदाज में यह सब कर रहे हैं। मजदूरों का कहना है कि हमारी महीने भर की कमाई छीनी जा रही है। 

फाटा में हेलिपैड पर तैनात सब इंस्पेक्टर ने नेपाली मजदूरों से लूटपाट की घटना को खारिज किया है। उन्होंने बताया कि पुलिस के पास केदारनाथ में स्टेट बैक की करीब सवा करोड़ रुपये रकम है, जो केदारनाथ से यहां लाई गई है। लूट की किसी भी घटना की फाटा में कोई रिपोट नहीं है। केदारनाथ में 6 हजार से ज्यादा मजदूर थे जो गौरीकुण्ड से लेकर केदारनाथ के 14 किमी के रास्ते पर तीर्थयात्रियों को डोली पालकी और ढंडी-कंडी में रखकर केदारनाथ के दर्शन कराते हैं। पैदल मार्ग में यात्रियों को पीठ-कंधे और घोड़े खच्चर पर ले जाने वाले इन मजदूरों में नेपाली मूल के सबसे ज्यादा मजदूर हैं। इसके अलावा कश्मीरी और लोकल मजदूर भी बड़ी तादाद में हैं। इनमें से भी कई सौ इस हादसे में जान गंवा चुके हैं। बचे हुए मजदूर जंगल के रास्ते सोनप्रयाग आने लगे। अब तक 2 से 3 हजार मजदूर इन रास्तों से लौट आए हैं। इस इलाके में लूटपाट और चोरी की अफवाह के चलते नेपाली मजदूरों की पिटाई का सिलसिला जारी है। केदारनाथ में पुल के पास एक छोटे से ढाबे से आजीविका चलाने वाले नन्द बहादुर कहते है कि तीन दिन जंगलों से बचते हुए जब सोनप्रयाग पहुंचे तो यहां राहत देने के बजाय गाली-गलौज और मारपीट ने और डरा दिया। इससे अच्छा केदारनाथ में दब जाते तो कम से कम जलील होने से तो बच जाते।

केदारनाथ से जान बचाकर अपने बच्चों के साथ लौट रहे नेपाली परिवारों को भी इसी तरह जलील किया जा रहा है। 4 महीने की बेटी गोद में उठाए और 3 साल के लड़के के साथ वापस आई तारा कहती है इतना दुख जंगल में 3 दिन तक भूखे प्यासे बच्चों को ले जाते हुए नहीं हुआ जितना सीतापुर से लेकर गुप्तकाशी में जगह-जगह तलाशी के नाम पर हो रहे व्यवहार से हुआ। गलत लोगो का कोई धर्म और मजहब नही होता है कोई देश नही होता है ऐसे लोग कही पर भी हो सकते है इसलिया हमे किसी एक कौम धर्म और देश के लोगो को बदनाम नही करना चाहिये। जरुरी नही की वहा पर लुटपाट का काम नेपाली मजदूरो ओर नेपाली मूल के लोगो ने किया हो वही के स्थानीय लोग भी यह कार्य कर सकते हैं केवल नेपाली लोगो के साथ ऐसा भेदभाव अच्छा नही है इसमे केन्द्र सरकार ओर राज्य सरकार दोनो को मिलकर ऐसे कार्य होने से रोकना चाहिए जिससे आने वाले वक़्त में गौरवशाली समाज के ऊपर कीचड़ ना उछाला जाएँ । 

नेपाली लोग ईमानदार, कर्मठ और मेहनती होते है, उनके उपर इस तरह का दोषारोपण करना सरासर गलत है। आज इन्ही की बदोलत दुर्गम रास्तो मे तीर्थ यात्रा संभव होती है। आज से 50 साल पहले भी तीर्थयात्री जब सामान इनकी पीठ पर लाद देते थे तो यात्रा के प्रति निश्चिंत हो जाते थे और गंतब्य पर सारा सामान सही सलामत पहुंच जाता था। हो सकता कुछ जंगलो मे रहने वाले लड़के या बॉर्डर पार के कुछ बदमासो ने इस तरह की घटनाओ को अंजाम दिया हो। ध्यान देने वाली बात तो यह है कि केवल शक्ल सूरत मिलने के कारण इनका नाम ले लिया गया हो। ये लोग भी अपनी जान बचा कर किसी तरह से वापस नीचे आये है, इनके साथ इस तरह का गलत व्यवहार उचित नही है। भारतीय स्वतंत्रता संग्राम से लेकर सन 62,65,71 और कारगिल युद्ध मे गोरखा /नेपालियो ने बलिदान दिया है लेकिन भारत सरकार ने नेपालियो के बलिदान को कभी भी सम्मान नही दिया है. भारत सीमा पर एसएसबी द्वारा नेपालियो को लुटा जाता है बुरा ब्यवहार किया जाता है पर भारत सरकार मौन रहती है. उत्तराखंड मे नेपालियो पर जुल्म एक जघन्य अपराध है इसकी जितनी भी भ्रत्सना की जाये कम है. भारत सरकार को ऐसे उदंड ब्यवहार करने वाले तत्व को तुरंत दंडित करना चाहिये। 

गौरीकुंड के पास नेपाल के रोल्पा निवासी बीर बहादुर(20) को भीड़ पीट पीटकर मार डालती लेकिन पुलिस ने हस्तक्षेप किया और उसे चौकी ले आयी। बीर बहादुर ने कहा, ‘मैं अपनी बहन और उसके पति के साथ जंगल चट्टी से नीचे आ रहा था। मेरे बैग में 15 हजार रपये थे। ये वह पैसा था जो मैंने कमाए थे।’ उसने कहा, ‘मैं नेपाल में रहता हूं. मेरी बहन, उसका पति और मैं यहां प्रत्येक वर्ष काम करने के लिए आते हैं। यह वह पैसा था जो मैंने लोगों को ढोकर कमाए थे।’ उसने कहा, ह्यजब हम वापस आ रहे थे तो भीड़ ने मुझे घेर लिया और वे मेरे बैग की तलाशी लेना चाहते थे। जैसे ही उन लोगों ने मेरे बैग में पैसे देखे वे मुझे चोर बताने लगे और मेरी बेरहमी से पिटायी करने लगे.’नेपाली नागरिक ‘कांडी’ के रूप में कार्य करते हैं. ये वे लोग होते हैं जो वृद्धों को अपनी पीठ पर बेंत से बनी टोकरी में गौरीकुंड से केदारनाथ पहुंचाते हैं.

उत्तराखंड में आये विकराल प्राकृतिक आपदा के बाद अब केदारनाथ के दर्शन कराने के लिए यात्रियों को पिट्ठू और डोली में ढोने वाले नेपालियों को प्रशासन और लोगों ने एकदम भुला दिया गया है, इसके उल्टे उन पर लूटपाट और दुष्कर्म के आरोप लगाए जा रहे हैं। उत्तराखंड की राजनितिक पार्टी गोरखा नेशनल फ्रंट के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष सूर्य विक्रम शाही ने ऐसे आरोपों को मनगढंत बताते हुए इसे नेपाली समाज के खिलाफ साजिश बताया। उन्होंने मुख्यमंत्री से इन घटनाओं की निष्पक्ष जांच कराने की मांग की है, ताकि नेपालियों को अपमानजनक स्थिति का सामना न करना पड़े। शाही ने एक स्थानीय दैनिक से हुए बातचीत में बताया कि नेपाल के करीब 700 लोग इस दैवीय आपदा में लापता हुए हैं। इनमें से तीन-चार सौ लोग लो केवल डोली उठाने वाले हैं, जिनके बारे में अभी तक कुछ भी पता नहीं लग पाया है और साथ ही प्रशासन भी इनका पता लगाने में अभी तक गंभीर दिखाई नहीं दी है ।

सबसे अधिक आपदाग्रस्त इलाको के खासतौर गौरीकुंड में होटल चलाने और डोली का काम करने वाला नेपाली नागरिक राजू इस समय हिमालयन अस्पताल जौलीग्रांट में भर्त्ती हैं। उसे खुद रेस्क्यू कर फाटा लाया गया था, जहां से उसे अस्पताल पहुंचाया गया। राजू ने बताया था कि उसके साथ के ही 16 लोग लापता हैं। इसके अलावा नेपाल सरकार के अधिकारी जो राहत शिविरों में कार्य कर रहे है उन्होंने भी अपने नागरिको के ऊपर लग रहे संगीन आरोपों पर कड़ी प्रतिक्रया देते हुए मुख्यमंत्री से विरोध भी जताया है। उन्होंने मुख्यमंत्री विजय बहुगुणा से लूटपाट और दुष्कर्म की घटनाओं की निष्पक्ष जांच की मांग उठाई है।

Dehradun : IAF sources said five of its personnel and three civilians were among the dead as the chopper crashed near Gaurikund. All 8 people were reportedly killed as an Mi-17 V5 chopper of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed during a rescue operation in flood-hit Uttarakhand on Tuesday. "One Mi-17 V5 chopper on a rescue mission from Gauchar to Guptkashi and Kedarnath while returning from Kedarnath crashed north of Gaurikund," an IAF spokesperson said. Eight persons onboard, including five crew members, suffered fatal injuries in the mishap, she said in Delhi. 

A Court of Inquiry has been order to investigate the crash, the spokesperson said. The IAF said its operations in the area will continue. IAF had started inducting Mi-17 V5 choppers only last year after 80 of them were ordered from Russia. This is the second incident of a helicopter crash this week in the hill state. A private helicopter carrying relief materials for the rain-affected people in Rudraprayag district had crashed on Sunday near Gaurikund leaving the pilot injured. While the incident is said to have taken place due to bad weather, the reason for the crash is yet to be ascertained.

भारत के गोरखा समाज को लम्बे समय से अपनी पहचान के लिए संघर्ष करना पड़ा है . इसी क्रम में उत्तराखंड में आये भीषण प्राकर्तिक आपदा के बीच मीडिया में राहत के दौरान नेपाली लोगो द्वारा लूटपाट और हमले की खबर आ रही है. इस प्रकार की रिपोर्ट में कहा जा रहा है कि स्थानीय नेपाली लोग इस तरह के घृणित कृत्य में सम्मिलित है जो कि पूर्णत: सत्य नहीं है , उत्तराखंड की पहाडियों से हाल के दिनों में जमकर पलायन हुआ है जिसके बाद वहा के खेतों खलिहानों में कार्य हेतु बड़ी संख्या में नेपाल के मजदूरों का आना शुरू हुआ. इस नेपाली मजदूर वर्ग का एक बड़ा तबका नेपाल के मैदानी एवं तराई  के इलाको से आ रहा है . इन लोगो के अलावा स्थानीय डोटिया लोगो के कुछ एक आपराधिक प्रवत्ति के लोगो द्वारा समूह बनाकर आपदा में फंसे लोगो के सामानों को लूटा जा रहा है .  इससे इतर गोरखा लोग जो इस आपदा में ITBP और IAF के मार्फ़त इस राहत कार्य में अभूतपूर्व योगदान दे रहे है . इसी बानगी एक खबर आई है जिसे पढ़कर भारतीय गोरखा होने और उसके ज़ज्बे को समझा जा सकता है .

भारतीय सेना के जवान ड्यूटी पर हों या छुट्टी पर देश सेवा का जज्बा एवं जुनून हमेसा उनके अंदर भरा होता है तथा अपनी जान की बाद मे सोचते हैं पर जरूरतमन्द की जानइनको अपनी जान से ज्यादा प्यारी होती है। ऐसे ही हमारे एक सैनिक हैं 5/5 गोरखा राइफल्स के मेजर महेश कार्की। मेजर महेश कार्की 12 जून 2013 से 7 जुलाई 2013 तक छुट्टी पर थे और देहरादून से बद्रीनाथ अपनी SUV मे जा रहे थे। इनकी गाड़ी मे इनकी पत्नी, 2 बच्चे एवं इनकी सास थीं। कर्णप्रयाग मे मेजर कार्की बारिश और इस सैलाब मेफंस गए फिर भी कैसे भी करके मेजर कार्की जोशीमठ पहुंचे। वहाँ पर पता चला की रोड टूट चुका था और मेजर कार्की को वापस जाने को कहा गया। अब मेजर कार्की के पास 2 रास्ते थे या तो वापस लौट आते एवं कुछ ना करते या फिर टूटे हुए रोड के उस ओर फंसे 25 लोगों को बचाते। मेजर कार्की से रहा नहीं गया और इन्होने अपनी पत्नी से कहा की आप मेरा इंतेजार करो, मैं अभी आता हूँ।

मेजर कार्की रोड के टूटे हुए हिस्से के दूसरी ओर गए एवं वहाँ से 4-4 करके फंसे हुए लोगों को टूटे हुए रोड के इस पार ले आए एवं सभी 25 लोगों को मेजर कार्की ने बचा लिया। मेजर कार्की 4 लोगों को इस लिए ला रहे थे क्यूंकी एक तो रोड टूटी हुई थी एवं बारिश लगाता रहा था ऐसे मे सभी को एक साथ लाने मे दुर्घटना होने की संभावना ज्यादा थी। यहाँ भी मेजर कार्की ने अपनी सूझबूझ एवं जुझारू सैनिक होने का फर्ज अदा करते हुए 25 लोगों की जान बचाई। मेजर कार्की ने ना सिर्फ लोगों की जान बचाई अपितु लोगों को अपने साथ लेकर गोविंदघाट तक आए जहां से सेना के ड्यूटी पर तैनात जवानों ने उन लोगों की सुरक्षा का जिम्मा अपने सर पर लिया।

DEHRADUN: Evacuation of stranded people from flood-hit areas of Uttarakhand picked up pace on Saturday with security forces rescuing 17 foreign tourists from Dharasu and sighting 1000 pilgrims stuck between Kedarnath and Gaurikund even as bad weather hampered chopper operations at some places. Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde, meanwhile, arrived here to review ongoing rescue efforts in consultation with chief minister Vijay Bahuguna. An eight-member team of experts is also being sent to Kedarnath shrine on Saturday to take a count of bodies lying in the temple area, disaster management authorities here said. 

Photos of the bodies strewn all over the area will be taken and put on the state government's official website, they said. Chopper operations were hampered here early on Saturday morning with overcast conditions delaying the programme of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, who was to undertake an aerial survey of the affected areas in Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Uttarkashi districts. About 1000 more pilgrims stranded in Rambara and Junglechatti areas en route to Kedarnath shrine in Rudraprayag district were sighted by security forces. These people seem to have taken refuge in the gorges and ravines in these areas when the massive deluge occurred nearly a week ago. 

Hungry for days, many of those sighted are ill and and in need of immediate medical care, official sources said, adding the sick and ailing among them are being evacuated on a priority basis. Apart from the 40 choppers in operation, the Rajasthan government has also given two choppers and 30 buses for evacuation of pilgrims. The Gujarat government has also put into operation two chartered planes 747 Boeings (Jet Airways) with a capacity of 140 persons each to ferry pilgrims from the state stuck in high altitude areas to Ahmedabad. A control room for pilgrims from Gujarat has been set up at Shantikunj Haridwar.

Dehradun: A total of 33,192 people, stranded due to floods in Uttarakhand, were rescued in the ongoing mammoth multi-agency rescue and relief operation even as thousands are still trapped or missing in the hills. Almost everyone from the worst hit Kedarnath town has been rescued. Today, the focus of the rescue efforts will be on Gaurikund and Rambara - more than 5,000 people are believed to be trapped in this narrow valley. The NDRF team reached Rambada today morning. According to the Home Ministry statement, a total of 50,422 pilgrims were still stranded at various places. 

Also, over 13,000 people are said to be missing. The search, rescue and relief operations are being carried out with the help of helicopters and personnel from Army, Air Force, NDRF, the Sashastra Sena Bal and Uttarakhand government. The Defence Ministry said that the Army had deployed 8,100 soldiers, including medical teams, engineer task forces and signal detachment. Ten specialised mountaineering teams of the Army were also pressed into service in the Kedarnath-Soumang area. 

The official death toll still stood at 150 but Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said the casualties could run into several hundreds which will be known only when areas become accessible and water recedes. ITBP chief Ajay Chadha, whose 1,000 men are involved in relief work in Uttarakhand, told reporters in Delhi that the worst affected Kedarnath temple area has been evacuated of people and there could still be about 400-500 people in the upper reaches. He said Army will launch operations today to bring these people down.

Dehradun: Uttarakhand has been battered by the rain fury. The torrential rain has caused landslips in the higher reaches and swept away several roads and bridges in Uttarkashi and Chamoli districts. It has also led to suspension of the Char Dham Yatra. The rain has caused havoc in Kedarnath Valley, one of the four Hindu pilgrim spots (Char Dham) in Uttarakhand, where more than 100 houses have reportedly collapsed due to landslide. Reports say 10 people have been killed and more than 50 others are missing. Reports also say that nearly 30,000 pilgrims are stranded in the valley because of landslides. 

Flash floods in the Assiganga in Uttarkashi swept away vehicles and heavy machineries yesterday evening with a high alert being sounded for local residents and labourers to move to higher ground. The state government has sounded a warning of 48 hours to all those on the Char Dham Yatra across the hill-districts. Both Mandakini and Alaknanda, major tributaries of the Ganga, are flowing over the danger mark and the bridge connecting Rudraprayag and Gaurikund has been damaged leading to its closure, disaster management officer Meera Kenthura said. State Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Minister Yashpal Arya said the administration is on alert to deal with any emergency. 

All government schools in capital Dehradun have been closed as precautionary measure. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is busy repairing the roads damaged by rains, he said, adding that the state government has also sought the assistance of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) to clear the roads blocked due to landslides.

Gorkhas are the people from Nepal and other North Indian states who are known for their distinctive facial features and short & stout physical structure. Also spelled as Gurkhas or Ghurka, the word Gorkha has been derived from the Prakrit language 'go rakkha' meaning a cow protector. Their religious & spiritual leader Guru Gorakhnath gave this name 'Gorkha' to his followers.

According to the folklore, Bappa Rawal, a Rajput prince, while on his hunting excursion, came across a warrior sage Guru Gorakhnath who was in deep meditation. Bappa Rawal stayed behind and took care of him in the jungle and the Guru impressed with the devotion of the Bappa gifted him a Kukri knife, an arched blade kept by the Gorkhas till present day. Instructed by Guru Gorakhnath, Bappa and his Gorkha army tried and stopped the early Islamic invasion in the 8th century in India. After defeating several of his opponents and conquering numerous territories towards the west of India, Bappa retired. Later, in the 15th century, the descendents of Bappa Rawal moved eastwards and subjugated a small region in present day Nepal which was named 'Gorkha' as a tribute to their guru. The Gorkha region of present day Nepal is the same region. Slowly and steadily, the Gorkha dynasty took over the entire area of modern Nepal. Now, they had a strong army and even a stronger foothold. Under the rule of Ran Bahadur, the Gorkhas attacked Kumaon and occupied Almora, which was the capital town of the Chand rulers. The Gorkhas attacked Garhwal too and built a massive fort near the present Lansdowne.

Almora, a quaint town, finds mention in the epic Mahabharata. The earliest written account about Almora by a Chinese traveler dates back to the 7th century. The region of Kumaon was under the control of Katyuri dynasty and Almora at that time, was a small insignificant village. It gained importance during the 15th century under the rule of Chand dynasty who laid the foundation of the town and named it 'Alam Nagar'. Presence of hundreds of natural springs and its picturesque beauty fascinated the Chand rulers so much so that they transferred their capital to Almora and ruled the region for about 300 years. But the Gorkhas of Nepal attacked the region in 1790 and captured it. Almora is situated on a horse-shoe shaped ridge and the Gorkhas built a fort each on both the eastern end and the western end of the ridge. They also occupied Garhwal and built a strong fortress in Langurgarhi but due to Chinese attack in Nepal, they withdrew their troops from there. The Raja of Garhwal had to pay them an annual tribute but they again attacked the region in 1803 and took it under their siege.

Although, Gorkhas are known for their valor and heroism but their rule in Garhwal and Kumaon regions had devastating effects on the common man. The society was already weakened by a terrible famine (1794-95) and an earthquake in 1803. On top of that the Gorkhas introduced unnecessary taxes on the poor people and the ones who were unable to pay the taxes were either sold at public places or deported to Nepal & were made slaves. They looted the houses of the common man and destroyed their property. They were solely interested in the booty and embezzlement of the land. Their system of justice was uncanny & bizarre and they killed innocent people without any dime and reason. Even their mode of punishment was brutal and atrocious. People wanted their rule to end and Garhwali king Sudarshan Shah who was thrown out of his kingdom persuaded the British to attach the region and end Gorkha tyranny. Finally in 1815, as a result of Anglo-Gurkha war, the British succeeded in driving out the Gorkhas from Almora.

देहरादून : उत्तराखंड के उधमसिंह नगर जिले के काशीपुर में एक युवती को धोखे से नशीला पदार्थ खिलाकर तीन युवकों द्वारा कथित रूप से सामूहिक दुष्कर्म किये जाने का मामला सामने आया है। प्राथमिकी दर्ज होने के तुरंत बाद तीनों अभियुक्तों को कल पुलिस ने गिरफ्तार कर मामले की तफ्तीश शुरू कर दी है। पुलिस ने बताया कि पीड़ित युवती की मेडिकल जांच में उसके साथ दुष्कर्म की पुष्टि हुई है। पुलिस के अनुसार, 20 वर्षीया पीड़ित युवती को गत रविवार शाम उसके मकान मालिक डोरीलाल के पुत्र प्रेम प्रताप (23) ने अपनी जन्मदिन की पार्टी में शरीक होने का न्यौता दिया।

जन्मदिन की पार्टी में अन्य लोगों के अलावा प्रेम प्रताप के दो अन्य रिश्तेदार राजेंद्र सैनी और हरीश भी थे, जिन्होंने धोखे से पीड़िता के कोल्ड ड्रिंक्स में कोई नशीला पदार्थ मिला दिया। पुलिस ने बताया कि जब पीड़िता पर नशे का असर होने लगा तो वह अपने कमरे की तरफ भागी। तीनों अभियुक्त भी उसके पीछे-पीछे उसके कमरे में आ गये और उससे कथित रूप से दुष्कर्म किया। कल होश में आने पर पीड़िता पुलिस के पास पहुंची और मामला दर्ज कराया। पीड़िता काशीपुर में किसी फैक्ट्री में काम करती है और अभियुक्तों में से एक के घर किराये पर अकेले रहती है।

Dehradun: The Congress on Saturday received a major drubbing in the Tehri Lok Sabha bypoll in Uttarakhand. The party lost the Lok Sabha seat, recently vacated by Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna, to Bharatiya Janata Party's Candidate and Gorkha Origin Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah. She defeated Vijay Bahuguna's son Saket with more than 18,000 votes, Election Commission said. Issues like corruption, price rise and economic reforms seemed to have hit the Congress badly. The results of the Tehri bypoll reflect the larger sentiment against the Congress in the hills. And with the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections around the corner, it doesn't seem to be a good signal for the Congress party.
